I called Monica to see a patient of mine in the Medical-Surgical Unit who was six days Postpartum and admitted for shortness of breath and high anxiety. She had been off her antidepressants for the duration of her pregnancy and was working to stabilize her anxiety at this time. The patient requested to see lactation because she had breast pain, and although the nurse was the only lactation support here on a Saturday and was doing newborn hearing screenings, she made time to come and visit my patient on Med/Surge, bring supplies, and educate on pumping more frequently. I truly appreciate her warm and kind gesture and am thankful that she communicated with me for updates on her availability throughout the day. She went above and beyond to care for this patient and to support a fellow Med/Surge nurse. Much appreciated.
