She wore a mask the whole time she cared for me, but I felt her warmth and smile. When she left, I was truly sad but was very excited to see her on my last day of discharge.
Ok, where do I start with Miss Monica Johnson as I reflect on my personal experience as a patient admitted for 4 days for an emergency, almost life changing experience for me. Long story short, I could have died with e-coli in my blood so as you can imagine I’ve had to reflect on my life. Anyways, that was just for a little context. Monica became my nurse at the end of day two. As the nurses introduced themselves to everyone in the room, Monica immediately was warm and efficient because she went to the board to make sure the info there was accurate, which, as a person who worked in an office environment, helps to keep track. One of the things she improved on right away for me was making sure I got my pain meds every four hours. I helped to have and see on the board when the next medication was to be administrated. Hence why the board works. She also added all the info of the team who would be caring for me while I was on the mend so when a certain doc approached, I wasn’t thrown off guard. More so Monica handled this fast-paced environment with sweat on her brow, however she did it with kindness and grace. If I rang the call bell, she was there for me and never made me feel guilty for asking for help. She wore a mask the whole time she cared for me, but I felt her warmth and smile. When she left, I was truly sad but was very excited to see her on my last day of discharge. Anyway, I know what quality care looks like, and Monica is giving it to the patients in her care. She makes you feel like a family member and not a burden to your circumstances, so you can focus on healing. I was able to leave a day early, and some may say well, she may not have much to do with that, but what I would say to those people is that Miss Monica is top tier and does her job with her heart, and you can not fake that. So, as I go back to my life, I’m glad and proud NewYork- Presbyterian Westchester Hospital gave me the opportunity to nominate a great nurse/person.
