She is a diligent servant leader and a true advocate for the entire team. She listens to suggestions and complaints from the team and tries to help solve any issue that we may encounter with empathy and compassion. She works on these suggestions to better the working conditions of her staff. Monica is a beacon of empowerment.
Monica is a very passionate & caring leader. She goes above and beyond her call of duty for her team. She understands the needs of the patients and the needs of the department. She is very instrumental in motivating her team to reach our common goals.

Making others great and being great at doing so is a special talent not many people are blessed with. Monica Perez is one of those gifted people, 3 minutes into my interview, all I could think of was wow her main focus was her team which she called the best team in the world. She acknowledges without them she would not be as great as she is when everyone understands the assignment. Whenever I receive a compliment from a patient, I always tell them it’s not me, it’s Monica. Leadership that is flourishing, what you see and experience in the Wound Healing Hyperbaric Center does not come in flourishment without her vision and push and they agree. Especially the ones who know her and the ones who don’t, they always ask who is this bubbly lady so early in the morning, I like her. I always respond that’s Monica our Director. She’s always happy and energetic telling everyone how blessed we are, and that today is a healing blessed day.

It is hard for me to write this paper without getting emotional. I always say to her she is more than my boss; she is family. She is a diligent servant leader and a true advocate for the entire team. She listens to suggestions and complaints from the team and tries to help solve any issue that we may encounter with empathy and compassion. She works on these suggestions to better the working conditions of her staff. Monica is a beacon of empowerment. She gets to personally know her staff members thus getting a better understanding of how they work and the potential that they have. She then pushes them to reach their potential. She has also been very crucial in the promotion and advancement of careers for a lot of the staff who has been working under her leadership. Many of my professional achievements are to be thanked for her vision and guidance. The list of all her qualities is endless and can go on and on. All these attributes inspired me to nominate her as the best leader. I am very grateful to work for such an amazing mentor and leader.

There are no words that demonstrate how extraordinary Monica Perez is … because Monica is more than extraordinary. She made me feel part of the team and her family since the first day I started working at UM. She encourages her team to be better people, better professionals, and better human beings, day by day. Her love and passion for her family, job, co-workers, peers, and patients are immense. She leads by example. She does not demand anything from you that she is not capable of doing herself. She will never try to hurt you; she will help you grow. She is the strongest woman I have ever known. She has been through the painful loss of her husband but despite this, she continues working as the head of our team. Monica is not only a boss. She is a friend. Maybe, one day I won’t work at UM anymore but certainly, my life won’t be the same because of the many life lessons I have learned mainly with Monica.

Monica, since my first day in this hospital, showed a big heart and immense compassion for all the patients and families, including myself and my family. Monica was very concerned about my health when I was sick. She was able to spend time with my family when we had a really bad time with the loss of a family member, despite her suffering from the recent loss of her husband. She listens to our ideas, necessities, complaints, or comments. She tries to resolve the situations by providing the best solutions, providing the best tools, or covering our necessities without bending the rules or policies of the hospital. She makes the best effort to keep the team together. Monica is the person who encourages you to grow and never destroys you, she pushes you hard in doing better and be a better professional and person. For all of this and many more, she deserves to have this recognition.

Monica Perez is the picture of an empathetic nurse and leader. She has a predictable caring nature that does not change. We had a patient that had body odor- no fault of his. When all shunned him and would sit outside so as not to be near him, she would go up to him and ask, how are you today, Sir? How are we treating you? This moment was repeated once a week every week. She would speak with him and carry on a conversation for as long as he liked. She set this example for us many times, at every team meeting. She says, “love the patient.” She is empathetic to how they have arrived and the struggles they have regarding their health. Another Monica quote is “love the unlovable.” She will tell us that sometimes we are the only persons to “touch” the patient, with emphasis on “human touch.” She is our mentor and our leader. She has an open door policy and prefers you to tell what’s going on and not come to work with an unsettled mind. We all know that if you need a mental health day, she understands. She is also supportive of our leadership and is an example to us of how to be. She is a great Director, friend, and nurse to us, the patients, and the physicians. Teamwork is her #1 goal everyday and always. She is deserving of this and much more.

Ms. Perez goes above and beyond of her job requirements to ensure the comfort and happiness of patients and families. She has made a significant positive impact on our team. She has demonstrated acts of kindness and compassion. I’ve noticed that under her leadership most of the nurses have grown professionally achieving certifications and superior degrees. She motivates the staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes. She is a mentor for our staff.

From the very beginning she made me feel like I belonged. It started during my interview when she made me laugh, gave me a tour, and introduced me to the rest of the team. It made my transition here that much easier. Despite all she’s been thru and had to overcome, these past months, she’s never stopped smiling and being an amazing leader. She has truly gone above and beyond for the entire team making this more than just a job but a passion.

During my seven years at this unit, she has been a model to follow with professionalism and lots of love. She is guiding the way day by day. The patients ask for her every day. She knows every one of them by their last and first name. Her spirituality fills them with happiness, trust, and love. Her door is ALWAYS OPEN to everyone that needs to talk or help, patients, family members, and co-workers. She knows when she needs to be tough to reach a goal for our good. When she has a purpose, she does not stop until she gets it, and it has to be done professionally and on time. She always let us participate in all decisions as the team that we are. During challenging situations, her positivity keeps us together, taking out the best of us. Her joy is contagious even on those days we lose hope because we are all HUMANS and that is something that she never forgets. She is a MODEL of Director, Nurse, Woman, Friend, mother, and grandma.

Monica has many qualities that make her an exceptional leader. She has unique self-confidence, empathizes with others, takes constructive criticism, and actually listens to what all employees say. In addition, she constantly looks after all of us; she always offers her support, guidance, and help when needed the most. She always goes above and beyond to ensure all goals are met and does her best to help whenever and wherever she can. In my opinion, she is an extraordinary leader, nurse, and friend.

First, I would like to say her leadership is outstanding. She leads by example and inspires her staff not only to provide quality patient care but to grow professionally and personally. For example, throughout my 11-year career as RN on a Telemetry Unit at the same hospital, she finally inspired me to transition to wound care. Monica’s passion for wound care is contagious. As a leader, she believes in education, and building a team that embraces new nurses and inexperienced nurses to reach their highest ability. She supports ideas and encourages us to give our best. Our team admires her clinical skills as she is an excellent clinician, and we all want to support her vision to be the best we can be because it is about the patient!!! I have to honestly say, the team always looks forward to Monday mornings when we can all be together in an atmosphere that is safe, and promotes collegiality, and personal satisfaction.
