I want to take a moment to write about Monica, our nurse. She did not see Dad as a man at the end of his life; instead, her competency and compassion for Dad encouraged him. He had hip surgery and was walking the next day. She gave him dignity and recognized the love. She did little things like turning him to reduce bed sores, brush his teeth, and clearly explaining his medications. She was training another nurse and showed her how to do things more effectively, like moving the patient and making sure he was strong. She also had a helper and together they made sure the call button was always answered promptly.
So, thank you, Monica, from his wife of 65 years, children, spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for helping to inspire our family.
