Monique makes our lives, as well as the patient's lives, better by doing simple little things.
Being a professional nurse means the patients in your care must be able to trust you; it means being up to date with best practices, and it means treating your patients and colleagues with dignity, kindness, respect, and compassion. Monique Jefferson embodies these things and more. She seeks to defend the dignity of those in her care, advocates for, and strives to protect the rights of her patients.

Monique goes above and beyond for her coworkers as well. Monique is always the first one to volunteer to jump in if needed. On our crazy busy days, Monique makes it better by always being a listening ear, volunteering to jump in or lend a helping hand, giving us a snack (you know, maybe you are just hungry), or encouraging us that it is just a rough few minutes, it will pass and we will get through this. She fosters a sense of togetherness, and you feel as if we are all in this together. Her giving spirit makes me want to be a better person.

I have watched Monique as a preceptor. She is always right there every step of the way, encouraging everyone to seek more than just why. She wants the who, what, when, and where. She is always ready to offer an answer after encouraging you to try to work it out yourself. She never makes you feel less than or dumb for asking. When you are working on a skill you have not performed before, she is your cheerleader.

Monique makes our lives, as well as the patient's lives, better by doing simple little things. She went out and bought a cell phone charger, not just for us to use, but we use it to charge patient's phones because they forgot theirs. She bakes treats for us and makes sure our birthday is special. She initiates potluck on the weekends when she works. I have seen her pay for a meal or cup of coffee out of her pocket for a patient or their visitor. She is diligent about making sure the unit is clean and presentable. She will stop if she sees something on the floor, and she will grab a mop if she needs to. I never hear her complain. We should all strive to be like Monique. I hope she knows how appreciated, admired, loved, and fabulous she truly is.
