There was one day when I was in a lot of pain, and the cancer in my back felt unbearably heavy. I made it to the restroom, but by the time I came out, I could hardly stand. I was dizzy, crying, and in so much pain I thought I might pass out.

That was when Monique saw me. She came right over and said gently, “I can see you're in trouble”. She helped me back to my seat, wrapped me up, and went to get a hot pad. She placed it carefully behind my back to ease the pain.

Then she stayed right there with me, talking to me in a calm and soothing voice until the pain subsided. Her presence made me feel safe and cared for in a way that went far beyond medical treatment.

I’ll never forget that moment. Monique just didn't care for my body; she cared for my heart and spirit. Her compassion, attentiveness, and quiet strength turned one of the hardest days into one of grace and comfort.
