Monte Gulliford is an angel. Recognizing how disappointed I was having my nephrostomy tubes exchanged rather than removed he came to the rescue and delivered the best consolation prize ever! My first nephrostomy tubes were placed in January. I was not provided with instructions on how to manage the bags. Having no previous experience managing them at first was a struggle. When they were placed I carried the bags around like small purses. Then in an attempt to improve mobility, I attached them to my legs using makeshift straps using elastic and safety pins. While that made daytime movement better, nights were challenging. Over the ensuing months, I tried various ways to manage these strange appendages. About 15 minutes before my husband was scheduled to leave Monte showed up with a big grin on his face. In his hand were the most beautifully engineered specialty bandages. Mind you I had just been talking with my husband about the need to create yet another Rube Goldberg version of gauze and tape and foam padding with a channel to secure the tube. Voila! What Monte held was a beautiful manifestation of that design. Monte proceeded to educate both me and my husband on how to manage the tubes and bags including proper cleaning. He also gave us a booklet for future reference. Remarkable! In 15 minutes Monte fixed a big problem and helped avoid future ones. It was a perfect solution. He provided assistance as a true professional with skill and kindness to boot!
