Morgan's positive attitude was infectious, her relaxed, while professional, demeanor put us and my daughter at ease, even during unpleasant parts of the evaluation.
We took our one-year-old daughter to the Emergency Room at Children's Hospital in downtown St. Louis because she had a high fever that we were not able to control, and could not tell the cause. When we arrived, it was obvious that they were very overwhelmed. We were told that it would likely be a four-hour (+) wait before we could be seen. I decided to call the Highland ER, as we live in Highland, and mostly wanted to get her fever under control. The phone operator connected me to a nurse in the ER so we could confirm that they had the capability to treat a one-year-old. When Morgan answered the phone she spoke in a tone that conveyed equal parts confidence, professionalism, and sincerity that teamed with her assurance of their capability. Her reassurance gave us the confidence we needed to leave where we were and come to the Highland ER. Right when we arrived, Morgan noticed us walking in and she went out of her way to come reassure us that even though it was very busy, she would get us in for care as soon as she could. She remembered every detail from when I called in. This little check-in provided us with an incredible amount of reassurance that we were in good hands. Throughout our time in the ER, it was very obvious how overwhelmed the staff was. The amazing part was that we never felt any stress of the situation from Morgan. Her positive attitude was infectious, her relaxed, while professional, demeanor put us and my daughter at ease, even during unpleasant parts of the evaluation. The most meaningful part of her care to us was that no matter how busy she was, she managed to stop in to check on us and play with our daughter at the perfect intervals. That made us talk about and reflect on how she made us feel just as important as the other patients. In a time when the healthcare industry is so overwhelmed and people on both sides seem to be so easily jaded toward others, it was refreshing to be cared for in the incredible way that Morgan cared for us. I believe that she treated us the way she did, when she didn't have to, that it speaks volumes about her character and personality of her as both a nurse and a person. THANK YOU, MORGAN!!
