When things continued to get worse, she utilized her knowledge, skills, resources, and team to advocate for the best care possible for this patient.
On Sunday, EMS brought in a patient. Morgan received the patient and went to work right away getting report and starting care. The patient had an extremely altered mental status and was not able to communicate what was going on with her. It became clear very quickly the patient was in critical condition.
Over the course of this patient’s time in the ED, Morgan never left her side. As information started to come in, Morgan moved quickly to address problems and do everything she could to comfort the patient, who was clearly unable to speak for herself or comprehend what was going on around her. When things continued to get worse, she utilized her knowledge, skills, resources, and team to advocate for the best care possible for this patient. I believe if this had not happened, this patient’s outcome would have been very different.
Fortunately, after being in the ER for several hours, the patient slowly started to improve. Little by little, labs started returning to normal range. The patient, who couldn’t communicate or keep her eyes open, finally began saying a few words and was able to open her eyes. Talk about witnessing a miracle and a life saved! This patient happens to be a family member, and she continues to improve every day.
I couldn’t be prouder to work with such amazing people! Thank you, Morgan, for being a kind and compassionate nurse who truly cares about her patients.
