I am in the hospital with severe stomach pain. At lunch, I ate something that did not agree with me. I was very nauseated. Morgan taught me to smile and hum to keep from throwing up. By supper time, I couldn't even eat white rice. I was in so much pain that I was crying. Morgan got special permission for me to have a special cocktail of medicine. It was the worst thing I have ever tasted. It came in two cups to drink. After the first cup, I thought I was going to throw up on the spot. I started smiling and humming. (It stops the gag reflex). I had to do the same thing after the second cup of medicine.
If it were not for what Morgan taught me, the stomach acid medicine would not have stayed down. Morgan sat with me while I smiled, hummed and rocked back and forth on the edge of the bed. My mom called and I was able to ask Morgan to talk to her. Then Morgan continued to stay with me as the stomach medicine started working. After a while, I was able to talk. Morgan stayed and listened while medicine worked some more. It was a much-needed distraction. When she left, I was still rocking on the side of the bed, but I knew I was not going to throw up. I do not know where I would have been without her help. I did not have enough self-control to keep the medicine down without help. I am very blessed to have a nurse who cares so much about me.
