I would like to nominate Nurse Morgan for the DAISY award due to her outstanding treatment and dedication to her patients, myself, and her profession. In August 2022 I was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer. Twenty six days after receiving my diagnosis I got married to my wife. In October, I completed radiation and started chemotherapy. On my first round of chemo I had a rare reaction to the treatment which caused me to have a life threatening cardiac event caused by the medication. After five days in the hospital I was told all my additional treatments would take place as an inpatient treatment. I met Morgan on my second treatment, and l learned she would be my daytime nurse for my remaining treatments due to her specialized training and certifications.

During the six additional treatments over the three months I have been in Morgan's care, she has modified her schedule to work when I am admitted, taken time away from her personal life and family, and has regularly stayed after her assigned clock out time in order to make sure I have everything I needed. While in Morgan's care, she has been personable, respectful, and empathetic, and has provided 1st class care which I can only explain as exceeding expectations to the highest degree.

While dealing with me at some of the hardest times in my life, Morgan has made all of my stays as enjoyable as possible. From medications, questions, to the small things from water and tissues, to getting me through some of the worst pain and suffering I have experienced in life, Morgan has handled everything with the utmost professionalism and can make the best from the worst for her patients. This diagnosis has caused me to go through some of the darkest mental struggles of my life at a time when I should be celebrating happiness with my new wife. Morgan's dedication and compassion have not only helped me but also my wife and family look toward brighter paths. With Morgan, knowing I’m in good hands has allowed her to miss minimal amounts of work and has allowed us to stay on our feet.

After these treatments, I have additional medical procedures to fight this disease. Whatever the outcome may be, I will always remember my outstanding treatment from Morgan and the multitude of doctors and nurses who helped me along the way. Morgan is the Benchmark for what nurses should strive to be. Her dedication to her profession has left a positive light not only on herself but also her coworkers and SSM as an overall provider of care. Thank you for your time and consideration.
