She was patient-focused and was able to calm him down, answer his questions, and spare the travel nurse from this patient. Morgan's compassion was evident with this patient.
Morgan Stang is such a strong team player on her unit, she frequently acts as charge nurse, preceptor for both new orientees and nursing students and always willing to lend a hand. Numerous times I have witnessed her charging while precepting and still helping the unit when they were short a PCT, ie. she went ahead and did the vitals for the other staff. Morgan gives very good patient care and will seek out guidance in difficult situations. When rounding I had a patient tell me that Morgan was "the best nurse" he ever had. He said she was very understanding to him, didn't get upset when he had difficulty understanding his new diagnosis, he said she sat down and took the time to explain to him in a way he understood.
As charge nurse, Morgan uses her critical thinking skills when making assignments for example she came in and had to change assignments due to the skill mix of nurses on the unit. She always advocates for the best interest of her patients. One day the unit had a very disgruntle patient who was very sick, he was a very difficult patient to deal with and challenged them on everything -like what is this med for, what is every side effect, what time will it peak, what drugs interact with this med? The nurse assigned to this patient was a timid nurse and he was getting out of control. The nurse was nearly in tears because he was so ugly towards her. Morgan stepped in and switched patients so that she would assume care of him. She was patient-focused and was able to calm him down, answer his questions, and spare the travel nurse from this patient. Morgan's compassion was evident with this patient. He has very specific questions and when she didn't know the answer she told him "I don't know the answer to that but I will go find out and then come back with an answer for you". When the Nurse Manager rounded on him he told her that he trusts Morgan because she was honest with him and was going to find out the answer from the doctor and get back to him.
Morgan advocates for our patients every day for example we had a 35-year-old male who had a jet ski accident and had a tibial fracture, who was in excruciating pain. Morgan gave him his prescribed Norco and it did not even touch the patient's pain. She escalated to the doctor and he prescribed morphine, Morgan also suggested a muscle relaxer which the doctor ordered. She administered as prescribed and the patient finally got pain relief. Morgan is a true DAISY Nurse.
