Morgan found it easy to talk about real-life things with this patient while she was distracting her with painting her nails or talking about make-up. Who knew girl stuff would be this beneficial to the patient? Morgan did.
Morgan was taking care of one of our long-term patients for several days and realized she had not been outside since being admitted back in January. With the weather getting warmer this was the perfect opportunity for the patient to get outside, get some fresh air and boost her spirits. Morgan went out of her way to help facilitate this. The patient said, "I appreciated it so much, I was able to see beautiful flowers, feel the wind in my hair and smell the fresh air. I am thankful that Morgan was my nurse and made this happen.” This demonstration of service excellence - placing people before tasks, personalizing their care and services, treating them with respect, and making an effort to find ways to surprise and delight them defines the kind of nurse that Morgan is. She is a great asset to Bellin and to the Surgical Unit and truly deserves this award.

Morgan has shown time and time again what it is to truly go “above” and beyond for her patients, and this is no different. A patient is struggling with their mental health and being in the hospital for an extended period of time, so Morgan carves out time in her day to give the patient a spa day where they talk, laugh, and paint each other nails. This really lifted the patient’s mood and made them feel less alone in this place. Morgan is an exemplary nurse who deserves the same love and kindness she shows her patients every day.

After many health changes during a hospital stay, a patient just wanted to celebrate her daughter’s high school graduation. Morgan went above and beyond her “normal duties” by bringing in balloons and streamers to decorate the patient's room for when her daughter arrived prior to her graduation ceremony. Morgan also was able to find a live stream of the graduation and set it up for the patient to watch on an iPad. This made the patient's day because she was able to celebrate her daughter’s accomplishments! If it weren't for Morgan’s compassion and exemplary service, none of this would have been possible! Keep being an amazing nurse Morgan.

Morgan uses the Bellin promise of "I will know you. I will show you respect. I will go with you on your journey. I am here to help you." Over the last six months, we have had a few long-term patients that have been hospitalized for much longer than they ever anticipated.
The first patient came to us in January of 2022 finally discharging in June of 2022. This was a very long six months for this patient. However, Morgan regularly requested to care for this patient so Morgan could provide the little extras that the patient needed. Once the weather started to get nice Morgan made sure she got her work done with her other patients so she could take this patient outside. The patient was ecstatic that she was able to smell the fresh air, feel the wind in her hair, and see and actually feel the sun on her skin. All these things so many of us take for granted. The weekends are when Morgan and this patient really spent quality time outside of the walls of Bellin.
The next patient we had was a woman who was critically ill, to the point of OTD being called. However, she fought through her illness and was transferred to the Surgical Unit. Morgan was this patient's nurse too. Morgan got to know her and her family. It was noted that the patient's daughter was graduating from High School. The patient was too sick to go to graduation or to have a party, so what does Morgan do? Morgan had the party here. She decorated the patient's doors with graduation balloons, streamers, and a sign. Morgan also organized outdoor family photos at the hospital so the patient could still be a part of her daughter's graduation day.
The last patient is a unique patient for our area, as her secondary admitting diagnosis is not one many of us have experienced, anorexia nervosa. In the month that this patient has been here, she has been granted a state legal guardian. It came as no surprise to me that Morgan once again made this patient one of her priorities. Morgan knew we needed to try to get the patient to trust us as healthcare providers/workers. Again, Morgan has succeeded at this too. Morgan found a common ground of make-up and nail polish type talk. This led to many open conversations, ones that were needed as we plan for the patient's next steps in her recovery journey. She has been nominated nine times before and she has been a nurse for only a year and a half, that's it. She is an asset to our unit and to the nursing profession. Morgan is truly a DAISY Nurse!
