Morgan Wall, in SICU, recently displayed the type of nursing that exemplifies compassionate care.
A man from a foreign country who was visiting the area had been admitted as a patient to UTMB. While several people assisted in meeting the needs and wishes of this patient and his wife, the one that stands out is Morgan Wall. Morgan discovered that the patient's wife was walking an hour each way in the hot sun to get back and forth from the hospital to the hotel where she was staying. Morgan put herself in the patient's wife's shoes. Morgan's empathy prompted her to talk with the wife about pedestrian laws, sun protection and protective clothing. Morgan even went so far as to give the wife rides back to her hotel.
The level of compassion and concern that Morgan showed to this patient and family is the type of nursing care that we should all strive for. Morgan represented herself, her unit and this institution in an outstanding way and made a huge impact on this family in their time of need.
