I would need a ton of paper if I were to list all the caring things this nurse did.
I was brought to the hospital because I had a near-fatal dose of one of my seizure medications. It was extremely scary. While in the unit, although I had someone in the room with me (who was also amazing), Morgan was still coming in regularly to check on me. She would come talk to me, and I really listened to her, and I could tell that she was hearing me. I had been in an abusive relationship for a very long time (30 years) and had not felt safe, heard, or even liked. When I had a psych evaluation, it did not go well. When I found out I would be transferred to another unit after I stabilized, I knew I needed to leave! I had an enormous amount of other issues that I thought I needed to address before I addressed my mental and physical health. This nurse connected with me, looked in my eyes, and kept telling me that I could do this!! I was doubtful that I could handle the unit. She stuck by me and made me realize that I was strong enough to do this for myself and no one else. I would need a ton of paper if I were to list all the caring things this nurse did, so the most valuable thing is that she made a mental connection with me, and while I was still scared and anxious, I was NO LONGER TERRIFIED. I’ve been here about 5 days and will be voluntarily going to another unit in a few hours and finally will be getting a start in the right direction! I’ve got this!! Thank you, nursing staff; there was no way this could have been done without you guys.
