Each and every day the Mom Baby team at WHWH desires to make each new family feel at home and cared for. The love and respect they show each patient, no matter their walk of life, is astounding. They care for each patient like they are their own family. It really does not surprise me the loving, kindness, tenderness, respect, and dignity that they showed a scared 13-year-old who became a mother through no fault of her own.
This scared young girl came in at 35 weeks pregnant to become a mother. She had been victimized by someone who was close to her family and was currently being sheltered away from her family. From the time she delivered until she walked out of our doors with her baby to go to a foster home, the staff opened their arms and cared as if she was their own child giving birth. Not only did they take care of her physical needs from having a Cesarean section, but also her emotional needs.
As the young girl began to recover from the physical impact of delivery, the Mom Baby staff became her angels. The quality time with the patient during each nurse's shift went above and beyond expectations. After many of their shifts ended, they continued to sit at her bedside with her because no one was allowed to visit while they sorted out what would happen to this young girl and her new baby. Team members asked if they could pray with her about what had happened and what was to come and she gladly accepted each prayer that was offered. The Mom Baby team took care of her by brushing her hair, dressing her in clothes they had bought for her and ensuring she felt better about herself. They brought her books about healing and coloring books to help her clear her mind. Each of her caregivers on the unit adopted this sweet young girl to make sure that she was cared for, loved, and not left alone.
I cannot imagine a more perfect example of living our BayCare values of Trust, Dignity, Respect, Responsibility, and Excellence. This young girl's life has been impacted by the care you gave her and the love you showed her. Forever grateful for a loving, compassionate team.
