During the holidays, it is possible to be short nurses due to everyone wanting to spend the day with their loved ones. On this Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, our unit was short-staffed. We were experiencing a very high acuity of patients. Several of our patients were unstable and three, in particular, were coded during our shift (with ROSC for all three!). The whole team worked together to ensure excellent patient care that resulted in patient stability. I want to recognize my team for working together to ensure that the families of our patients did not have a memory of mourning attached to this year's Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Not all superheroes wear capes - some wear scrubs. This is the team that inspires me and reminds me that I am never alone in my efforts for my patients. I can always count on them to lend me a helping hand to achieve better patient outcomes.
