Losing a family member sucks. I mean, it really sucks. But if it was going to happen, then Kaiser Sunnyside Progressive Care Unit in Clackamas, Oregon, was the best place for it to happen. This isn't intended as a cynical testimonial. Rather, a legit one of great appreciation. Seriously, your staff was amazing. And we're extremely grateful. Apologies that this note is overdue, as our family member was a patient for two weeks. She passed away in the early morning hours.

You need to know how impressed we were with the nursing staff during this window of time. All the nurses were incredibly professional, as hoped and expected. And then they took their humanity and passion for their jobs to the next level with their respect, authenticity, grace, and care for her as well as all of us who were dealing with the reality of her life fading and then expiring during those two weeks. Watching our wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend slip from this world was horrible. And for many who visited in the hospital, it was the first time they'd been around death. Yet amongst our collective emotional pain, spiritual suffering, and medical confusion, your staff buoyed us with their comforting thoughts, situational honesty, and responsive and calm presence. We get that that's their job, but they are good people and were all very good for us during our difficult time.

It's been more than four months since she passed, and four months since we walked out of your hospital with one fewer person in our family. Our broken hearts have great appreciation for the Kaiser Sunnyside Progressive Care Unit staff.

Thank you for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
