My Mom was admitted into Sanford Heart Hospital on Tuesday Sept. 22. Due to a delay in the ER, we needed to spend another night in the hospital before leaving. That night was Friday, September 25, and her night nurse was Muharema. What a blessing and a gift she is. Muharema talked with my Mom about why she was there, not the medical reasons (she already knew that from the day nurse). But the reason why my Mom felt she was there and what was hurting her.

Muharema really listened and discussed the pain and tried to make my Mom comfortable. She was genuinely caring and sympathetic towards my Mom's problems. My Mom suffers from Neuropathy in both feet. That was not the reason we were sent to the hospital, but Muharema listened and cared for her feet and made my Mom feel as comfortable as she could.

My Mom was upset about having to spend that extra night in the hospital and if Muharema had not been her nurse that night, I think it would have been a very different outcome. My Mom was calmer and felt safer with Muharema as her nurse. In the morning when shift change occurred, Muharema hugged my Mom and wished her well. You could tell the sincerity in her actions and her words. My Mom was feeling much better about the decisions that needed to be made about her continual care.

It was hard to watch my Mom be in pain, but it was comforting when my Mom talked to me about how much she appreciated Muharema and how much attention she gave to her. Not just medically, all the nurses we had did their job well, but it was that extra attention and concern and feeling of comfort, you get with certain people and Muharema had that something extra.
