Recently, the 6 West team pulled together to respond to a horrific and completely unexpected incident on their unit. While for patient privacy's sake we can't share the details, suffice it to say it was in no way an incident caused by the actions of anyone working at the hospital, but as such required a whole unit, immediate response.
Upon emergently arriving on her unit, Administrative Manager Sherry Silveri noted:
"When I came in last week Saturday, I was blown away by the bravery, professionalism, support, and strength that each of my staff displayed during such a horrific event. The way that they cared for the gentleman, and then continued to care for their other patients and one another, was truly amazing. I want you to know what a great job they did, this wasn't something that could have been prevented, they did everything right, and I cannot thank them enough for being such an amazing team! I want to specifically recognize Andrew Harris, he was the charge nurse that day, and the amount of bravery and leadership he displayed, cannot go unnoticed. When Andrew realized what had happened, he immediately responded, securing the scene and making sure that his co-workers were safe. Andrew was a true hero that day, and I think I can speak for all my staff by saying how thankful we were that Andrew was in charge that day.
I want to recognize the rest of my staff that were here that day. They always work hard and provide excellent care, but this day they rose to the occasion, and I cannot tell you how proud I am to work with such an amazing group of people!"
