May 2026 Honoree
My Nguyen 2026, BSN, RN, ONC
Throughout my 25-year nursing career, I have had the privilege of working alongside many exceptional nurse leaders; however, none have demonstrated the unwavering love, passion, and commitment consistently exemplified by My.
What truly distinguishes My is a steadfast dedication to direct patient care, the development of strong nursing teams, and the relentless pursuit of positive patient outcomes.
My is a dedicated and hardworking nurse leader who exemplifies transformational leadership grounded in integrity, accountability, and collaboration. She inspires trust through transparency and resilience, consistently taking ownership of challenges and adapting effectively to complex and evolving situations.
Her professional life has been devoted to continuous learning, growth, education, and service—both to patients and to the nurses under her leadership. My's commitment to professional development is evident through the creation of study groups and certification preparation courses, resulting in a 25% increase in specialty certifications over the past several years.
Compassionate, visionary, and innovative, she is a tireless advocate for patients and nurses alike, fostering a culture of excellence that elevates patient care and advances the nursing profession.
During time spent at the bedside, My excelled in both clinical expertise and leadership. Her compassionate and kind nature has been consistently recognized by patients and colleagues. She fully embodies Parkland Health’s ICARE values and serves as a role model through daily actions.
A strong focus on patient safety and quality is reflected in the implementation of evidence-based standards that have led to significant reductions in patient falls, hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), and hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs).
Beyond the hospital setting, My remains deeply committed to serving the Dallas County community by teaching postoperative care classes at the clinic. She emphasizes the importance of physical therapy, early mobilization, and effective postoperative pain management, empowering patients to actively participate in their recovery.
As an engaged and highly visible leader, she is rarely seen sitting down. Each day begins with meaningful interactions with night-shift staff, including one-on-one discussions. A nurturing and approachable leadership style has strengthened trust and contributed to improved staff retention.
My has led multiple performance improvement initiatives that resulted in measurable enhancements in patient safety and quality of care. One notable initiative involved the implementation of daily leadership rounds to identify patients at high risk for CAUTI, CLABSI, and HAPI.
Through comprehensive risk assessments and timely interventions, she has fostered a culture of vigilance and proactive harm prevention. As a result, the unit achieved zero central line infections and zero hospital-acquired pressure injuries this year—an outstanding testament to this leader’s commitment to patient safety.
My is also deeply passionate about educating new nurse residents, teaching infection prevention and patient safety with enthusiasm and genuine dedication during each residency cycle. Her name is frequently mentioned by patients who praise compassion, attentiveness, and eagerness to serve.
She personally visits every postoperative patient to ensure protocols are followed consistently by both patients and staff. Fully aligned with Parkland Health’s mission and vision, this nominee remains dedicated to serving the most vulnerable populations with compassion and respect. She continually seeks opportunities to improve patient care while fostering nurses’ professional growth.
As a facilitator for nursing certification programs, she developed educational materials and test-preparation questions that significantly improved exam passing rates. Additionally, she has facilitated multiple nursing research studies on the unit, actively engaging staff and ensuring adherence to research protocols.
My supports nurses with annual PENCAP submissions, helping recognize committee involvement, in-service presentations, and mentorship activities. This support has led to increased participation, improved job satisfaction, and stronger alignment with organizational goals.
By fostering a work environment grounded in accountability, respect, and positivity, My lives by the guiding principle: “Happy employees make happy patients.”
This journey—from nursing student to expert clinician and transformational leader—demonstrates what is possible through dedication, resilience, and commitment. My has made a lasting difference in the lives of countless patients, nurses, and the communities served.
