Our world shifted Monday night when my 9-year-old suddenly went into keto acidosis, and we learned he had type 1 diabetes. My son and I were both in shock, having moved from urgent care to the ED and then to the PICU within a few hours. After the first night in the PICU, frightened and in shock, we were greeted by Mykayla Perrotti with genuine care and support. We could feel her sincere desire to provide the medical care he needed with accuracy and heartfelt compassion. Mykayla was an encouraging beacon of hope in a tornado of panic. My son says these words: I highly recommend Mykayla for another scared kid. She was gentle and nice and assured when I got my shots. Neither of us will ever forget Mykayla.
