I want Myra to know how special she is to me and to everyone on our floor. She is one of the most caring and compassionate individuals I think I’ve ever known. When I have a problem and need someone to listen, I always know that she will be there for me as a colleague and as a friend. She is willing to help others even at her own inconvenience. When she was low censused on Christmas day, she worked half of my shift so that I could make the drive to be with my family for dinner Christmas night. She offers sincere empathy when a coworker is having a hard time, either professionally or personally, and I know I can always count on her. As a new grad RN, I also always knew that I could come to her if I had any questions. She was not my preceptor but I still knew that if I needed her she would always be willing to help. I know that I am not the only one that fells this way. We have had patients recognize her compassion on numerous occasions, and have often heard through notes left in rooms or sent in as customer comments that her patients feel that she truly listens to them, even when others do not. When patients have been written off as noncompliant, difficult, or manipulative, she continues to view them as a person with needs; she provides care without judgment. They are more than just another patient to her, they are people, and she takes on the responsibility of caring for the whole person in every way possible, including the care and comfort of the patient’s family when possible, even if it is not her patient. She exemplifies what it means to be caring in everything she does and she makes me proud to be a nurse. I love working with her, and I feel lucky to know someone with such a large heart. Most people probably go a lifetime without knowing someone as loving and kind as Myra, an if I or my family were admitted here, we would be blessed to have Myra taking care of us.
