L requested that Nai put the NG tube on him because he was very scared and he trusted that Nai would be able to do it.
We have an infusion patient who comes to the RTU frequently for infusions and over the past few months Nai has created a super fun bond with this little one and his family. Unfortunately, L got sick and was admitted to the hospital on IMSU and was having a really hard time recovering. While he was inpatient, he had to get a NG tube placed, and the nurses really struggled to do this. He had to get anti-anxiety meds for the NG placement and since they could not draw back he had to go get an xray to make sure it was placed correctly. Unfortunately, L had a delayed reaction to his medications causing him to feel the placement of the NG which left him scared and traumatized. The meds having a delayed reaction also had him seeing double and the providers put him on frequent neuro checks to make sure he came out of them okay. After a day of having the NG placed, he threw it up and had to get another one placed because he still was not getting better. L requested that Nai put the NG tube on him because he was very scared and he trusted that Nai would be able to do it. Nai was able to go upstairs to another unit where she helped the NG tube be placed successfully. Later the family was very thankful for this and brought Nai some beautiful flowers that she chose to leave on the unit so we can all smell them and see them! L is still in the hospital and when Nai is working she goes to visit him and his family to check on how he is doing. Not only that but L also comes to the RTU to visit Nai when she is working! I think this friendship that they created is beautiful and I love that L could trust that Nai could put the NG tube and she was willing to help so that he wouldn't have another traumatic experience again.
