After finding out we had to go through the NICU before our daughter could come home, we were faced with the worry of the unknown. We quickly realized it wouldn’t be so bad after meeting Nancy.

The first day I met her, I knew something about her was different than any other nurse I have met in my life. We were expecting just another nurse, but this nurse was far from that; she made us feel like family.

The way she took care of my daughter and me was so caring and loving. She went out of her way to make sure I was doing everything right by not only taking care of my baby but also myself.

She spoke up when my baby needed extra care. She went out of her way to get certain bottle nipples ordered so my baby could take a bottle. She taught me things I never knew. It was like coming into this unit was no longer scary; it became like coming home to my grandmother.

So much love and compassion radiated from her. She became family and treated us as such. She was determined to get my baby as strong as she could be. She taught me how to breastfeed even when I felt like I couldn’t do it. She didn’t let me give up.

She taught me how to bathe my baby and what to do and what not to do. She would make sure my baby was strong and ready to come home. She spoke up when I needed someone to.

My daughter wasn’t tolerating her calories well and would get sick after every feeding. This nurse helped me navigate through it and find out the cause and find a better solution for her. My baby then began to grow bigger and stronger after she found a reason to fix the issue.

Some nurses wouldn’t care to try new things, but this nurse did. Coming into this unit wasn’t tears and worries with her; it was laughter, love, and a familiar homey feeling. I looked forward to the days she was there and missed her when she wasn’t.

When she was there, I didn’t worry at home. I knew my daughter was being cared for to the maximum. I didn’t have to hover over my camera all day because when she was there, my daughter was safe. We weren’t just patient and nurse; we became friends.

I cannot thank her enough for all she has done for my little family and me while navigating this life. She helped us thrive.

You can tell when someone really loves their job and when someone’s only there for work. She loves her job, and she shows it.

You would think you wouldn’t miss the hospital after your baby comes home, but I came to realize once our time is up here, I will miss it. Not the hospital itself, not the monitors, tubes, and incubators, but I would miss Nancy.

Not being able to come into a hug and a smile every day, not coming into chatting about our lives and having such a sweet kindhearted person along my side. I am truly so blessed to have had her as my nurse. I hope whoever has her loves her just as much as I do, which I know they will; it’s hard not to.

Thank you so much, truly from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for everything you have done for me and my daughter. I am going to remember you and our time here in this unit together forever.
