Nancy exhibits the SHC values and beliefs by her care, compassion, advocacy skills, excellence in care, sincerity, commitment, and respect for her patients. A patient that Nancy has been working with recently relocated to the Palo Alto area from Northern California to be closer to his SHC providers. The patient has financial and physical challenges. The patient has mobility issues and can be short of breath upon exertion. With Nancy’s perseverance and advocacy, she was able to obtain a power mobility scooter for the patient so that he could be more mobile. This process took six months of back and forth with the insurance company.

The patient is living in a new environment, doesn’t drive, and is not familiar with the local public transportation system. Nancy has gone above and beyond by showing the patient how to use the free Stanford shuttles to get to and from his home to the medical center for his appointments. With the patient’s financial challenges, Nancy has connected the patient with the local food pantry so the patient can have both fresh and packaged foods.

Nancy is an excellent role model for all of us to aspire to. Her care and compassion, sincerity, commitment to always doing the best, advocacy, and respect for her patient exemplifies the heart of Stanford nursing.
