Nancy consistently goes above and beyond in her daily nursing care. Our director received a letter from a patient today that described in detail just how caring Nancy can be. He wrote that after receiving a pain injection his right foot was slightly numb. He had a history of Charcot foot that required him to wear specialized shoes. Keeping this in mind, Nancy explained to him that it would be best to wait for the numbness to recede and at that time she would assist him in getting dressed safely. He admitted that he did not heed her request and attempted to get up. As he got up he lost his footing and fell scraping an elbow and a knee. The patient had also dislodged his insulin pump. He wrote how Nancy stayed with him the entire time even when the other doctors and nurses had resumed their other duties. Nancy helped the patient and family member to a cab safely. He then went on to write that as he arrived home his phone rang -- it was Nancy calling him at 8:30 pm that night (from her home) to make sure he arrived safely. She reinforced the need for him to see his general practitioner for follow up regarding the fall. He was so grateful for Nancy's caring nature and concern.

I worked with Nancy that day and the next, she never told her co-workers that she called the patient from her home. We had no idea until we read his beautiful letter in a staff meeting. Nancy is caring and selfless. She is such a pleasure to work with every day.
