Nancy Gause - PACU
I would like to nominate Nancy for this award because she exemplifies all of the qualities of a nurse. I have worked closely with her for 15 years, and each year I am reminded of how special a nurse she really is. She is intelligent and whenever I need assistance, she is who I turn to. Her integrity is above reproach and she always continues to help each person (whether it is the patient or family) to maintain their dignity. Although I could comment on each quality with numerous examples, it is her compassion and selflessness I would like to concentrate on for this nomination.
Nancy has worked in the PACU for approximately 10 years. During this time she became friends with one of our co-workers who eight years ago was diagnosed with breast cancer. It has spread to her liver and her brain. Nancy has been the kind of friend and nurse that we all dream and pray we have. She has taken her to numerous doctor’s appointments, chemo treatments and never let her go alone to receive any CT results. In January, when this co-worker called Nancy complaining of a severe headache, after working all night Nancy rushed to her home and brought her to the ED where she waited patiently for her friend to have a CT and MRI of the head. She stayed with her while her friend received the bad news of mets to the brain. She has worked tirelessly with family and friends to have someone stay with her around the clock, talked with physicians when necessary and help make arrangements for her to move back to Canada where she is from. I can honestly say, without a doubt, that if it were humanly possible she would do that for each and every patient she has.
It would be a grave injustice if Nancy does not win the award. Every patient and family member always love her and everything she does. Her attitude is always positive and all her patients know how special she really is, but I hope through this nomination everyone will at least see at least a little spark of the brightness I see each time I work with her. Thank you for your consideration.
