Nancy truly epitomizes what it means to be an advocate for patients. Nancy is perhaps the most brilliant ICU nurse I have ever worked with, her tenure of experience coupled with a compassionate heart drives her to seek patient care solutions that otherwise go unnoticed by others.
A recent patient care experience illustrates why Nancy is an ideal candidate to receive this special award. Recently Nancy spent numerous shifts taking care of a Minister. The Minister was critically ill and not expected to live. Nancy tirelessly worked, sometimes beyond the end of her shift to tend to the needs of this gentleman. Recently, Nancy was presented with a plaque and letter from the Bishop and congregation of this Minister's church. Quoting from the plaque and letter:
"Thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty. The compassion you showed was inspiring and we couldn't have been more blessed that you were the nurse on duty. The fact that he is still here is a miracle. We know you probably save a lot of lives in a given year, but we want you to know we are forever grateful. You are not just a nurse but an Angel! The work that you do is important, and you exceed at it in every way possible."
