April 2026 Honoree
Nancy Mlambo, RN
I am currently lying in a parent's bed in Skylark ward. My son was brought in 8 days ago with cellulitis and osteomyelitis and was in extreme pain. Nancy was the first nurse to look after him and the one who made a lasting impression. During his inpatient stay, he has been keen to look at the nurse rota to see if she will be in, thanks to her extremely kind, caring, and patient nature. My son has Fetal Valproate Syndrome so struggles with new social situations and new people, but he has formed a bond with Nancy. What makes her stand out is that, even on shifts when she was assigned to other patients, she used her own free time to come see my son and spend 10 minutes cheering him up and listening to his stories. She is an absolute ray of sunshine in a place where days can sometimes feel very long and dark, and I have absolutely loved having her care for my child. Tonight, my child had what turned out to be an anxiety attack, but Nancy came in immediately to calm him down, perform an ECG, and he was fine, and I believe that is because of the way Nancy treated Joel. I really hope this award can be given to Nancy to show how much I appreciate the dedication she shows to her job and her patients.
Thank you, Nancy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
