I am not sure how long we were together that day, but Nancy has left a meaningful impression with me for what it means to be a nurse.
I was a patient in the TH 6 PACU, and Nancy was my nurse. I was so fortunate to have her!
I was not prepared for how uncomfortable I was going to feel and the limitations of mobility and lifting. I was told before in the MD office, but the reality sank in in the PACU. Nancy took me through all of the pain management steps of medication, dose, and frequency. She went over how to move and not move to keep my healing on track.
Multiple times, she used a great technique to help me remember what a hematoma should look and feel like and to call if I was concerned about this. Nancy knew my face from being on staff here, but I always felt she treated me like the scared woman I was and not a nurse. She settled down my thoughts of "what did I do?" and turned them into "how can I handle this?"
Nancy and the TH 10 team (I was moved from TH10 to TH 6) kept track of my husband and son and made sure they knew where I was and brought them to me as soon as it was allowed. Nancy spoke to them, eased their concerns, and answered their questions too.
