Nancy showed compassionate care to a patient who woke up in the middle of the night shaking and scared. The patient heard noises in his room and another nurse was just admitting his roommate. He heard the other patient uses marijuana and has his medical card and grows his own marijuana to use. He was scared since he was in the room with a 'drug dealer'. She reassured the patient that he was okay, sat with him and held his hand until he calmed down. Nancy asked the charge nurse to move the roommate who was just admitted and not to place a roommate with the patient since he was so upset. She helped him call his wife and she explained what happened with the roommate. The patient wanted to leave AMA and go home. She assured him that he was safe and she was watching him, caring for him and would keep him safe. No more roommates would be placed with him. Nancy had to sit with him for a while to calm him, reassure him and his wife on the phone. He was too ill to go home or be discharged. The wife was very grateful for what she did. The patient was able to sleep and rest knowing he was safe and being well cared for.

Nancy's concern for the patient is always a priority for her as a nurse. She keeps the patients safe, comfortable and speaks up for them. She is a true advocate for her patients to help them get better and makes sure their needs are met. Nancy was quick in calming the patient and removing what was upsetting the patient. She is a true leader and lover her work. Nancy hums when she works which reminds us of how much she loves her job and taking care of the patients, families, and co-workers is a top priority for her. We are glad we have her on our team.
