She truly genuinely cared for me and got to know me and my history, which helped me trust her with my care, knowing she would help voice what was best for me to ensure I was getting the best adequate care possible.
What does it mean to be a good or exceptional nurse? That’s probably a question you ask your staff a lot, well I have one name for you, it’s Nancy. She is the model image of what I believe all healthcare workers should strive for. The passion for her career really shows as she cares for ease of her patients the way she would for her own family members, with the understanding that each patient is unique with their own unique needs.
In my case, because of my chronic health conditions, I am in and out of hospitals a lot. Sometimes I just need reassurance that my concerns and worries are valid no matter how silly they seem, and Nancy was able to provide it every time. I was blessed with many occasions for warm, gentle conversation and laughter from Nancy (which, as we all know, is the best medicine) as she stopped in to check on me, pass meds, and make sure I was overall comfortable. She didn’t make me feel less than or that she was just there for a paycheck. She truly genuinely cared for me and got to know me and my history, which helped me trust her with my care, knowing she would help voice what was best for me to ensure I was getting the best adequate care possible. She also wasn’t afraid to go above and beyond for me. Her communication skills are outstanding. I would trust Nancy with my life at any point in time. She made sure that I understood the game plan with my Docs, that I knew what all my meds were and that all my questions were answered always. Nancy takes pride in her work, and it definitely shows. I requested her to take me on every shift she had if I was still there. I’ve been overjoyed, blessed, and amazed with the nurse and just overall person she is. She is an absolute Gem!
No one ever wants to be in the hospital, but my stay was made so much more comfortable, and I was put at ease knowing I was in amazing hands. That in itself can make a huge impact on healing, knowing you are fully cared for with someone in your corner looking out for you. This wonderful, amazing woman and nurse is everything this award stands for and so much more.
