I observed Nancy displaying compassionate concern in assisting me in getting onto the gurney, needing a blanket to be comfortable, and answering questions from me and my son, who was with me.
Nancy has been my pre-op nurse for both my first and second cataract surgeries. In both, I have observed her outstanding enthusiasm, and she has demonstrated a highly skilled technical and practical nursing ability in communicating information to prepare me for surgery.

E-Empathy: I observed Nancy displaying compassionate concern in assisting me in getting onto the gurney, needing a blanket to be comfortable, and answering questions from me and my son, who was with me.

T-Teaches: Nancy coordinated with other nurses and staff to ensure that they would know my status or other patients’ status when she was not available. This nurse’s commitment to maintaining a timely patient care status is essential to safety and minimizing errors and problems.

A-Advocates: for peers and veterans, when this nurse identified themself to me, this nurse thanked me for my service. Nancy asked me if I had any Veterans Preferences or care goals.

L-Leader: this nurse followed up and asked me if I had any health care concerns or special needs.

Lab Director with greater than 40 years’ experience in training and hiring phlebotomists and nurses in doing IVS. My veins can be difficult to punt in an IV, but this nurse was very successful in doing my IV without any pain or problems. Nancy was very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable, and they fully explained what I needed to know about my pre-op protocol. And was very helpful in getting dressed post-op and with any discharge information. This nurse played an important role in my very positive overall cataract operation nursing experience.
