The refrigerator technician, Z, was called to service our refrigerator in Pediatrics. Upon his arrival, Nancy who was relaying our refrigerator issues noticed that Z had his left hand in bandage. She asked him what happened, and he stated that he has just burned his hand on the fire torch. Nancy then proceeded to unwrap his bandage to discover a very, very serve burn. She directed him to go to the Emergency Room immediately to have that looked taken care of. Z was reluctant to go, but he did at her insisting that he needed to.

We saw Z today for another refrigerator repair and Nancy immediately asked to see his hand. He was updating Nancy on his experience. He had to have surgery on his hand and had 3rd-degree burns. His comments were, “If it was not for Nancy dropping everything that day to take care of me, I would not have a job, a working hand or any livelihood." He is so grateful that she stopped what she was doing and went into “nurse mode” to take care of him. “I did not want to go to the Emergency department, but because she was so insistent,” he did go and was very appreciative of her care and concerns for him as a person. “She went above and beyond that day to care for me and I will be grateful that she did."

Thank you, Nancy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
