The emotion, patience, and kindness she exhibited during my pap's entire stay were truly unmatched.
A few weeks ago, our 102 year old grandfather was in Encompass for rehabilitation. As his health started to decline, we were informed by the doctors that the end was near. As devastated as we all were, we had one positive light that was with us until the end...our nurse, Nancy Rudnick. Our grandfather had been in Encompass previously and had met Nancy then. Upon his return, he had Nancy as his nurse again and talked about how amazing she was just coming in to check on him or give him medicine, but truly talk to him and see how he was doing.

Nancy was the greatest support system that both my pap and my family needed during this difficult time. She constantly checked on all of us, saw how we were doing, brought us snacks and drinks, and always asked if there was anything she could get us. Typically, when patients go into rehab, they go home at the end of their stay, like my pap had done 4 other times. For Nancy to just naturally step into this tough situation with such grace brought my whole family a sense of peace. The biggest impact Nancy had on me, personally, was how she continued to talk to my grandfather with such respect, even after he became non-responsive. She explained to him each time that she was going to be giving him medicine, from start to finish. He was never treated as an "old man" but instead like every other patient. Nancy was diligent with his medications to the point where the pharmacy even made a commending comment about her timely manner. She cared for our Pap like he was her own grandfather, which is more than we could have ever asked for. I was nervous and saddened when Nancy's shift had come to an end because I knew that he was in the best of care. As my pap fought through the entire night, I truly believe part of the reason was so he could see Nancy again the next day! She came back in in the morning and did not even skip a beat.

After our pap passed, she continued her support by asking if there was anything she could do for us and went on to bathe and dress him one last time. Once again, this meant the world to our family. The emotion, patience, and kindness she exhibited during my pap's entire stay were truly unmatched. To say that Nancy went above and beyond in this situation is truly an understatement. She did more for our family than she will ever know, and we are so thankful to have had her as our nurse.
