The Medicine West NPC members would like to nominate Nancy Seewer for The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award. Nancy has been working with Saint Joseph hospital for 40 years. Nancy graduated with her Bachelors in the Science of Nursing from Loretto Heights College of nursing in 1980. She worked her way up from floor nurse to charge nurse to SSC and now as an assistant manager. Nancy has helped shape Medicine West into the extraordinary unit it is today.
Nancy was the first nurse on the internal medicine unit to receive her medical surgical certification. She encourages all nurses to increase their professional development by receiving this certification. She is an advocate and a role model for expanding your nursing knowledge.
Nancy is committed and passionate about patient and staff safety. She was an integral part of creating safety coaches throughout the hospital. She was the first safety coach and maintains a leadership role. She coordinates with safety officers and utilizes our PEARL reporting system to inform the staff on ways to continuously increase patient and associate safety.
Nancy fosters the growth and career development of young nurses. She is the original leader of the DEU program. She was an integral part of creating the mission of the DEU and really believes in developing a partnership with Regis University faculty and students in order to create an environment that embraces a nurtured student nurse as a new graduate nurse. Nancy created the competencies, progress, and evaluation of the students and new graduate nurses. Since 2007 Nancy interviews all of the capstone students every year. She schedules and picks the best preceptors for each and every one of our students, which aids in a smooth transition into the hospital setting. Nancy was also a key supporter of creating the DEU on surgical care six years ago. The success of the DEU is all because of Nancy's dedication and strong support in creating relationships with novice nurses.
Nancy is a leader, mentor, and an all around incredible nurse. Medicine West is lucky to have her and we cannot think of someone more deserving of this award.
