Nancy is the "glue" of our unit. Always positive, caring, knowledgeable, a strong clinical resource for all our staff.
As Nurses in the PACU unit, we work scheduled shifts as well as cover calls. This week we experienced a massive snowstorm. I work in PACU and live 18 miles north of Chilton. A requirement for our job is to be able to reach the hospital within 30 minutes if called in off-hours.
My plan for the snowstorm was to sleep at the hospital prior to my call shift start. Without even me asking, Nancy offered to cover my call shift since she lives closer. This offer by Nancy demonstrates her generosity and caring persona for her co-workers and patients. This is just one of the many instances that show what a special person and nurse Nancy is. I am personally forever thankful to Nancy for encouraging me to apply for a position in the PACU 14 years ago. She and I worked for many years together on the orthopedic unit at Chilton. She opened another door for me by suggesting I come to PACU and I truly love my position in this unit and the wonderful co-workers who have become my dear friends.
Nancy is the "glue" of our unit. Always positive, caring, knowledgeable, a strong clinical resource for all our staff. I have had the honor of being her weekend "partner" for many years. Even in the middle of the night, Nancy is caring above and beyond for her patients.
On one occasion, in particular, we had an elderly patient from a nursing home in the recovery room. She was very proud of her large stone costume jewelry ring she wore. Smiling from ear to ear when we commented on how beautiful it was. Nancy removed the ring and cleaned and polished it, placing it back on the patient's finger. Sadly also, we have had patients nearing death in the PACU, often unexpected surgery off hours.
Nancy has often addressed the needs of the family and offered compassionate support at the bedside, allowing the family to spend time in PACU with their loved one. Nancy is truly a DAISY!
