Marilyn and Nanette prayed and cried with me. I cannot explain what a source of comfort that was to me in that moment. My father was so comforted and happy with the care that they provided.
I wanted to reach out and recognize two amazing nurses at the Emanuel Cancer Center. My father was receiving care there and he was very sick with head and neck cancer. My family and I were very worried about his advancing disease process and poor prognosis, but my father insisted on continuing with chemo. One day, when my father sat in the chair to start his chemo infusions, he started talking about the Lord and his desire to pray. His nurse, Marilyn Baptist, overheard our conversation and offered to pray with us. She said the most beautiful prayer for my father! Marilyn was so kind, caring, and professional, and she really made an impression on us both. I was tearful and asked to speak to Marilyn privately. She let me voice my concerns, cry, and share my father’s situation with her. Marilyn introduced me to another nurse, Nanette, and told me Nanette was also a believer in God. Marilyn and Nanette prayed and cried with me. I cannot explain what a source of comfort that was to me in that moment. My father was so comforted and happy with the care that they provided. I really feel like these nurses went above and beyond their duty.
My father, sadly, passed away less than a month later, but we never forgot the angels that The Lord sent to us that day. All of the staff were always so friendly and welcoming anytime we would bring in my father for chemo. They made a difficult situation a little more bearable with their kindness. Please let Marilyn and Nannette know we will never forget the kind, compassionate care they gave to our father.
