Nanette Parras is one of our SANE nurses, and goes above and beyond the call of duty every day to take care of our patients. She is the most compassionate nurse I know, and is always a patient advocate. She is exceptional.
Recently after working an 8am-8pm shift, Nanette went home and was later called to help with an acute SANE case. She was not on call, (we do not have overnight coverage), she came back in at midnight to take care of the child patient. She worked with the child and this family for about 4 hours to ensure that everything possible was done for this family and child. She performed her exam on the patient, and stayed a few hours with them to ensure that the family was educated on proper care of the patient and injuries after her ED visit. She made sure the patient had clothing and food at home, and made sure CPS was involved in the case.
Nanette is always an advocate like this, she does many things for our community, but this was exceptional! She made sure the family could verbalize and demonstrate the care the patient needed, and that the patient could follow up with the child advocacy center for counseling if needed. Nanette deserves the DAISY Award for everything she does.
