Natalie consistently role models caring and empathy while treating patients in the ICU, but today she truly went above and beyond to ensure the needs and wishes of her patient were exceeded!
Today Natalie is caring for an elderly female patient on the ventilator who is potentially in the last days of her life. She is still pretty alert and is communicating by writing notes and gesturing. This morning she shared with Natalie that she is tired, just wants to be comfortable, and wants to be able to pass with her husband by her side. But first, her dying wish was to be sure her family has special gifts to open on Christmas morning. Her fellow nurses reported without hesitation, Natalie jumped to action to make it happen. She sat with the patient, assisted in troubleshooting her email, and facilitated setting up web accounts so all the gifts could be ordered and delivered in time for Christmas day.
Natalie truly brought her heart to work this morning and shined bright through her compassion and care for this patient. It is the little things that make a big impact- and today Natalie's actions will be truly remembered for years to come, especially for this family!
