We had a patient who had been under our care for well over a month. Natalie was the primary nurse many times and she had a special bond with him. One morning he went into respiratory failure. During the code, most of us focused on the medical aspects. Natalie noticed that he looked scared. She immediately started explaining everything that was happening to him, talking in his ear to calm and re-assure him. He visually relaxed with her efforts. We recently received a letter from his widow and it reminded me of how compassionate Natalie is and what an incredible patient advocate she is.
