As we faced the possibility of a C-section due to a lack of progress, Natalie remained calm and encouraging when our spirits began to slip
We had the privilege of having Natalie as our Labor and Delivery nurse on back-to-back days during one of the most pivotal moments of our lives—the birth of our first child, M. What began as a stressful and uncertain experience transformed into a safe, empowering, and ultimately joyful journey, thanks in large part to Natalie’s exceptional care, clinical expertise, and unwavering compassion.
On the first day, our birth plan began to veer off course, and Natalie immediately stood out as an advocate for both mom and baby. She calmly assessed the situation and recognized that a more conservative approach was needed. Drawing on her extensive clinical knowledge and experience, she advocated for a change in course that prioritized safety while still honoring our birth preferences. It was clear from the moment we met her that Natalie wasn’t just doing her job—she was practicing the art and science of nursing with integrity and patient-centered care.
We were incredibly fortunate to have Natalie again the next day, this time during active labor. As we faced the possibility of a C-section due to a lack of progress, Natalie remained calm and encouraging when our spirits began to slip. She offered position changes, provided coaching, and continued to uplift us with her steady presence and belief in our goal of a vaginal delivery. Through her guidance, skill, and encouragement, we were able to achieve that goal, and Natalie was right there with us as our son M took his first breaths.
Natalie exemplifies Kaiser Permanente’s nursing vision and values in every way. Her professionalism and clinical excellence allowed us to avoid unnecessary interventions. Her compassion and patient- and family-centered care ensured we felt safe, respected, and empowered throughout the process. And her ability to work seamlessly with the care team demonstrated teamwork and a deep respect for collaborative care.
Everyone we encountered in the Antioch MCH department was wonderful, but Natalie made a lasting impact that we will never forget. Her care shaped our birth story in the most meaningful way, and we are endlessly grateful to have had her by our side during such an important moment in our lives.
