Natalie Manier has been with Beaumont since November 2014. She started on 8 South and became a member of the patient satisfaction committee as well as the Unit PPC chairperson. Natalie went on a mission in Africa as a GN before starting on 8South for 4 weeks during the Ebola outbreak and describes it as a wonderful experience. In June of 2016 Natalie became interested in SICU. She transferred to 5 East and at the same time she was nominated and won the Daisy award for a patient she cared for while on 8South. She was nominated by the visitor/close family friend of a patient on 5 east.
J had the misfortune of getting a brain tumor a second time.. Unfortunately, after surgery, J had to come back to Beaumont because of an infection. When J came back, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. It was there that the entire family and their friends were introduced to Nurse Natalie Manier. Behind the calm, sweet smile, and lovely personality, there lies a ferociously attentive and compassionate nurse. Natalie performed her duties on J with grace and skill, but more so, she bonded with the then unresponsive J.
At that time, we warned Natalie that she experienced J in a most unusual state of being, i.e., quiet. That once J awoke, she would find him to be a most verbal and colorful patient. All day, Natalie probed and prodded a mostly unresponsive J to get him to respond to her inquiries of his pain level and feelings with great displeasure by J. This morning, J had his breathing tubes removed. For a few hours there was quiet. Thereafter, the ultimate litmus test occurred, J's personality came back. Colorful language flowed.
