In that moment, she set aside everything else to care for someone who needed help. It was instinctual, compassionate, and exactly what we all hope someone would do in that situation.
I would like to nominate Lieutenant Spritzer for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award in recognition of her compassion, professionalism, and the powerful leadership she displays every day. While I don’t work directly in her department, my coworkers and I interact with her often, and it’s clear—even from an outside perspective—that she is the kind of nurse who leads by example and uplifts everyone around her. Her name is brought up routinely as a great person for any and every interaction.

LT Spritzer clearly approaches each day with positivity and purpose. Her attitude is always upbeat, and she brings a strong, steady presence to every environment she enters. That combination of drive and humility is something that truly stands out.

What’s just as telling is how her coworkers speak about her. I’ve consistently heard from those who do work closely with her that she is not only skilled and dependable but also incredibly supportive and motivating to those around her. It’s clear that she’s earned the respect of her team not just for how well she does her job, but for how she treats people while doing it.

And she doesn’t just lift up her team—she helps anyone in need. Her selflessness and awareness extend well beyond her own department.

A perfect example of LT Spritzer’s dedication occurred just the other day, showcasing her deep compassion and quick thinking in a moment of need. While walking through the hospital, LT spotted a young active-duty member who was visibly distressed, walking slowly toward the stairwell, covered in sweat, and clearly in physical discomfort. Without hesitation, LT changed her entire course of direction, immediately stepping in to assist. She guided the individual down the stairs while asking all the right questions to assess her condition and ensure her safety. LT’s calm, empathetic approach provided immediate relief, and she ensured the young service member was okay before moving forward. This quick action, demonstrating both her clinical acumen and her genuine concern for others, is a testament to her exceptional nursing and leadership skills. This act wasn’t assigned, expected, or even witnessed by many—but it was the perfect example of who so many see that LT Spritzer is. In that moment, she set aside everything else to care for someone who needed help. It was instinctual, compassionate, and exactly what we all hope someone would do in that situation.

Even from my outside perspective, it’s incredibly clear how much of an impact LT Spritzer has—not just in her clinical work, but in the culture she helps create across the hospital. Her presence is calming, her leadership is empowering, and her compassion is genuine. She represents the very best of what the nursing profession stands for, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.

Note: This is LT Spritzer's 2nd DAISY Award!
