Nataly stated in her reflection that she went back to the fundamentals of nursing practice to provide compassionate and patient-centered care for her client.
Nataly Caddy demonstrated commitment to compassionate care during her clinical rotation at Maple Springs. Nataly was caring for an elderly client with limited mobility and ability to communicate verbally. This client would express pain by crying, groaning and grimaces, and was able to use the FACES pain scale to communicate with staff. This client communicated her pain as a 10 but no interventions were implemented to alleviate pain during position changes.

Nataly communicated her concern to the nurse she was assigned to and asked why non-pharmacologic methods were not used, specifically distraction using music. The client agreed that she would like to try this. The nurse agreed that this was a good idea, and Nataly delegating finding facility-provided head-phones to the CNA. The headphones were used the next time the client needed re-positioning and not only was the client more comfortable during position changes, but she also now tolerated being up in a chair and was noted to be humming/mouthing the words to the music. This intervention is now in the patient's chart/plan of care and communicated to other shifts. Nataly stated in her reflection that she went back to the fundamentals of nursing practice to provide compassionate and patient-centered care for her client.
