Natasha is always very energetic and helpful when it comes to managing my chronically ill, high-risk patients. She is always willing to go above and beyond to help manage their care and attempt to keep them out of the hospital. She thinks outside the box when it comes to trying to increase medication compliance and providing family education.
Natasha phoned my office to let me know that she was at the home of one of our patients and she told me that when she had spoken with the patient's husband "something did not feel right." The patient was refusing to go to the ER for evaluation even though Natasha felt she needed to. She was willing to come to my office for fluid and blood work, however. As Natasha was helping her family get her to the car, she became weak and had to be helped to the floor. She decided to call EMS and have her transported to the ER and the patient agreed. It was found in the ER that the patient had a potassium of 2.0 (normal 3.5-4.5) and had EKG changes, as well as an acute kidney injury. She was admitted to the hospital for stabilization. This patient would have died without Natasha's intervention and acting on her gut feeling. I am proud to work with a nurse the caliber of Natasha and hope that if ever needed, she can care for my family.
