Nate informed me that he was going to run off the unit for his lunch to grab the patient some batteries.
Nate was caring for an elderly gentleman who had a hearing aid and the batteries died. Nate came to me at the nurses’ station and asked if we kept hearing aid batteries on the unit. I informed him that no we didn’t keep those stocked. He explained to me that his patient wasn’t able to hear very well because the batteries had died in his hearing aids. He questioned if the gift shop would have them. He tried the gift shop and didn’t have any luck. He then informed me that he was going to run off the unit for his lunch to grab the patient some batteries. Nate purchased the batteries and once he was back he went to give them to his patient and help him so he could be able to hear better. The patient was so thankful. The patient’s son called to check on his father and the patient told him about his nurse going out and buying the batteries for his hearing aids. He was so thankful for the kind gesture that he had pizza delivered for the unit due to the kind gesture Nate had given to his father in his time of need. The compassion and care that he shows/gives his patients are astounding. You can’t teach compassion for others and Nate has that in spades. So very thankful that he is a part of our team. Awesome job Nate!!
