Our son was recently admitted to Carle's Pediatric Unit. Upon our initial admittance, Nathan was our nurse. Being that it was nearing the end of his shift, he made sure to give us our great handoff to the night nurse. Throughout our stay, we had Nathan several more times. He was always so attentive to our child, kind and even went out of his way to help alleviate the stress of being under isolation.
Nathan would spend great lengths of time playing with our child, showing him card tricks and made the isolation masks staff had to wear into a funny game. I felt so at ease with each procedure and treatment our child had to endure because Nathan took the extra time to sit with us and listen to our fears and concerns. He answered all our questions to the best of his abilities and when he did not have the answer, he got us the person who did. He assisted us in advocating for our child when we were unsure about some decisions that were being made. When I was faced with the reality that I may need to take a leave of absence from my employment, Nathan quickly got a social worker to come to the room and assist me with the proper documentation. His amazingly personable approach to healthcare made our very stressful and scary time much easier to endure.
