Nathaniel was calm, kind, connected, proficient, and efficient, which allowed the patient to avoid intubation and seizures.
Nathaniel does an excellent job taking care of our behavioral health teenage patients when they are admitted to the PICU or Pediatric Unit. The teenage behavioral health population is a complex and challenging population to care for. Nathaniel always has a calm and reassuring presence with these teens at the bedside. Nathaniel does an amazing job of communicating with them at their level and keeping them motivated to walk, maintain their activities of daily living, and engage in conversation.
We recently had a situation in the PICU that required Nathaniel to be in the patient room, at the bedside continuously to support the patient’s care needs, keep the patient safe, and administer necessary treatment. Never once did Nathaniel get flustered or overwhelmed. Nathaniel was calm, kind, connected, proficient, and efficient, which allowed the patient to avoid intubation and seizures. I attribute this patient’s good outcome to the excellent nursing skill that Nathaniel demonstrated.
Throughout this past year, the number of behavioral health patients has increased significantly, highlighting the need for skilled and compassionate caregivers to meet the needs of this patient population. Nathaniel exemplifies kind and compassionate care even when it is hardest to do, and our teen patients are so lucky to have someone like Nathaniel around!
